‘Rainbow project’ forms part of my interests in working with elements from nature. The explicable but extraordinary occurrence of a rainbow in the sky which has multiple connotations and mythological relevance in faiths and cultures across the world. Love, peace, harmony, celebration, hope and promise being some of them. This installation aspires to evoke that special personal relationship with this ephemeral being.

'Catch a Rainbow II' is the second iteration of Temsüyanger Longkumer’s attempt to make a rainbow that is visible during both night and day. The work brings together his interest in working with natural elements, and chance. The extraordinary but explicable occurance of a rainbow in the sky after the rains has multiple connotations in the context of Kerala. A symbol of hope after the heavy rains that caused the worst floods in over a century in Kerala, the work also has mythological relevance in numerous faiths. The recent ruling against the archaic Section 377 that criminalized homosexuality in India provides the work yet another dimension. Through a simple, durational manipulation of sunlight and water droplets, the artist reminds us that wonder and beauty is all around us, we just need to learn to keep an eye out for it.
